Sociology 101: Introduction to Sociology/English 110: Higher Education
Why do students tend to sit with kids of the same race in the cafeteria? What do IQ tests really measure? Students will consider these questions and others, applying existing theories and using field experiments to understand the nature of organizations and social groups. In English 110, students will explore CUNY’s dynamic history as it illustrates broader debates that have shaped education in America: merit versus quotas, 2-year vs. 4-year colleges, and the consequences of the shift from open admission policy to more stringent standards.
